Slice of life 🍕

Date: January 1, 2023.

So I was talking with my friend about a post that read,

“There is no such thing as work-life balance. Everything worth fighting for will unbalance your life.”

To which I suggest, one must periodically ask themselves, whether whatever they are doing in their work or in their life, is it worth fighting for? Let me elaborate for a better understanding. Basically work is a part of your life, everyone knows that. If that’s the case, then why has this work-life balance debate been carried on for so long? This imbalance occurs when work outweighs other priorities in your life.

Let’s take a simple and fun example. Imagine your life as a pizza with every slice equivalent in size. This means that each one gets an equal amount of your time and efforts, even your feelings. But when the size of the “work” slice increases, it creates an imbalance. This can happen with other “abstract” slices too. Even the people in your life resemble different slices. In such instances, one should take a deep breath and assess whether the imbalance is worth their time. In addition, one should also assess what steps should be taken to regain control of their life. This gives you several options,

  • You can simply be patient through the tough times, and see what good lies on the other side.

  • You can look for other paths that lead to your destination.

  • Alternatively, you can change your course and explore something entirely different that leads you to a brand-new destination.

Your whole life is like a pie-shaped dashboard (p.s. this dashboard has pizza ;) theme). Throughout your entire existence, you make alterations to the sectors you see on your dashboard; you add a few, you remove a few, but overall, you aim to strike a balance between each. Life will be most rewarding when each of these sectors is in harmony with each other. You may feel stagnant at times. When this happens, make sure you spin the wheel and get moving. And when your life is spinning a lot, creating havoc, remember to stay patient. It will gradually lose momentum and you will be able to regain control again. Stopping it abruptly will only disorient your life.

Key takeaway: one must know when to hustle and when to be patient.

Furthermore, let me draw your attention to another issue. Hustle culture has gained popularity in recent years. Well, when a regimen is followed in a regulated manner, you can extract maximum benefits from it. But overdoing it will lead to burnout and exhaustion. Physical and mental health are negatively affected by the toxic hustle culture. People should be aware of the fact that there is a difference between being busy and being productive. Having your days planned out in advance is convenient. However, it is not advisable to fill your schedule so tightly that you neglect your responsibilities to yourself and to those you love (family and friends).

Additionally, self-care maintains the same level of popularity as hustle culture. However, when not done correctly, it can lead to depressive episodes where you’re constantly regretting taking time off for yourself and still not getting anything out of it.

What is the right way to practice self-care?

Just change your perspective — it is your life, set your own goals and move at your own pace. Seeking external validation or constantly trying to embody someone else’s persona will only make you lose patience and push you down into the anxiety pit. Our demanding ideas about work, efficiency, competition, productivity, and profits, in association with the need for compassion, support and love from family, friends and loved ones, often put us at a crossroads.

At the end of the day, I’m adamant with my belief that one must periodically reflect when standing at a crossroad- is it worth fighting for?

Remember, your life is like a big pizza with different flavored slices (lol); you can add cheesy ones, you can discard pineapple ones. Eating tasty but unhealthy slices will cost your health, while eating nutritional slices will add zestful years to your life.

Key takeaway: never stop discovering different varieties of toppings and seasonings in life.

What is your take on work- life balance?

P.s. Happy New Year beautiful people! May the year ahead be full of opportunities and endeavors! Smile, shine and go sassy! Also, stay curious! author will try to write more exciting and captivating blogs!
